The Cherrapunji walk to Nohkalikai Falls viewpoint involves a 200-metre cliff-edge trail with loose shale surface and no guardrails. Do not attempt in wet weather (June-October) as the trail becomes slippery and the viewing platform fog reduces visibility to under 10 metres. The Dawki river boat ride is best between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM when the sun is overhead, eliminating surface glare and maximising water clarity. After 1:00 PM, the river surface is wind-rippled and the clarity effect is significantly reduced. The Khonoma village gate entry is INR 50 per person (Indian) and INR 100 per person (foreigner), collected by the Khonoma Village Council at Gate 1.

Welcome to Guwahati: The River Gateway 55m
Your grand journey starts as our driver meets you at the Guwahati airport. We’ll visit the sacred Kamakhya Temple on the hilltop for blessings before you settle into your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a relaxing sunset boat ride on the Brahmaputra river. Spend your first night relaxing and preparing for the hills. Altitude: 55m
Drive to Shillong: The Scotland of the East (100km) 1,500m
After a fresh breakfast, we head south into the hills of Meghalaya. Stop at the beautiful Umiam Lake (Barapani) for a boat ride or just to enjoy the view. Reach Shillong (1,500m) by afternoon. Visit the Don Bosco Museum to learn about the diverse tribes of the Northeast. Spend your evening at Police Bazaar, the heart of the city's local culture. Altitude: 1,500m
Cherrapunji: Land of Clouds & Canyons (55km) 1,484m
Drive to the dramatic cliffs of Cherrapunji (Sohra). We’ll visit the thundering Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India. Explore the ancient limestone Mawsmai Caves and see the Seven Sisters Falls. Spend your evening watching the clouds roll over the deep canyons from your resort balcony. Altitude: 1,484m
Living Root Bridges & Crystal Rivers 1,500m
Today is for nature wonders. We visit the village of Mawlynnong, known as Asia's cleanest village. See the unique 'Single Root Bridge' nearby. Next, we head to Dawki to see the incredibly clear Umngot River. Enjoy a boat ride where the water is so clear that you can see the riverbed. Return to Shillong for the night. Altitude: Varies
Drive to Kaziranga: Into the Rhino Kingdom (250km) 60m
We descend from the Meghalaya hills back into the green plains of Assam. Our journey takes us to the Kaziranga National Park, the main home of the one-horned rhino. Reach your jungle lodge by evening and enjoy the sounds of the forest over dinner. Altitude: 60m
Kaziranga Safari & Orchid Gardens 60m
Wake up early for an exciting Jeep safari in the park to spot rhinos, water buffalo, and deer. After a break, visit the Kaziranga Orchid Park to see hundreds of indigenous flowers and enjoy traditional Assamese folk dances. Spend a quiet evening at your lodge. Altitude: 60m
Arunachal Ascent: Drive to Dirang (230km) 1,497m
Today we head north into the high mountains of Arunachal Pradesh. We’ll cross the Bhalukpong border and drive up through the tea gardens and forests to reach the beautiful Dirang Valley. Visit the 17th-century stone fortress of Dirang Dzong and relax at the local hot springs. Altitude: 1,497m
The High Road: Sela Tunnel to Tawang (130km) 3,048m
Prepare for a spectacular drive across the Sela Range. We’ll use the new Sela Tunnel at over 13,000 ft to avoid the heaviest snow. Stop at Paradise Lake and the Jaswant Garh War Memorial. Arrive in the sacred town of Tawang by late afternoon and check into your hotel. Altitude: 3,048m
Tawang Heritage: Monasteries & Spirits 3,048m
Spend your day at the massive Tawang Monastery, a 400-year-old spiritual fortress. See the 18ft gilded Buddha and visit the ancient library. Later, visit the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama and walk through the local Monpa markets for handmade woolens. Altitude: 3,048m
Bum La Pass: The High Border (15,200 ft) 4,633m
Take a 4x4 vehicle to reach the Indo-China border at Bum La Pass. See the snow-covered alpine tundra and visit Madhuri Lake, famous for its submerged trees. It’s a humbling and beautiful experience at the edge of the world. Return to Tawang for the evening. Altitude: 4,633m
Glacial Falls & Descent to Bomdila 2,415m
Stop at the thundering Nuranang Falls before driving to the hill station of Bomdila. Visit the Upper Gompa for amazing views of the high Himalayan peaks. Explore the local bazaar for authentic Monpa carpets and crafts. Enjoy a farewell dinner with your group. Altitude: 2,415m
Farewell to the Northeast: Guwahati Departure 55m
Our final drive takes us back down to the plains of Guwahati (280km). We’ll take you to the airport or railway station for your flight home. Your 12-day grand explorer journey ends here, leaving you with memories of sacred monasteries, root bridges, and the wild rhinos of Assam. Altitude: 55m
