Barot Valley & Uhl River: 3-Day Heritage & Angling Expedition
Why choose Barot Valley Angling Tour Package with our Shimla-based experts?
Local Insider Insight
The best angling spots are situated 2km upstream from the Barot bridge towards the Uhl reservoir, where the water is colder and the trout are more plentiful.
The 3-Day Barot Valley & Uhl River Expedition is a professionally managed visit to one of Himachal's most unique ecological and industrial enclaves. Situated in the Mandi district, Barot serves as the technical gateway to the Shanan Hydroelectric Project—India's first major hydel system, commissioned in 1925. This itinerary provides an authoritative look at the region's industrial heritage while highlighting its status as a premier center for Brown and Rainbow trout angling in the Western Himalayas. The journey visits the historic Winch Camp to see the 100-year-old vertical haulage trolley ruins and features guided walks along the glacial Uhl River. With private SUV transits and stays in verified riverside lodges, this expedition offers a seamless and informative encounter with the heritage and biodiversity of the Uhl Valley.
"When I last drove up the winding ascent from Kalka to Shimla, as the sub-tropical pine woods gave way to towering deodar forests, I was reminded of why we call these hills home. For a truly authentic Darshan at the Jakhoo temple, skip the ropeway and hike up the forest trail in the early morning mist. As you drive into the Beas River gorge towards Manali, keep your camera ready for the dramatic granite cliffs near Mandi-Pandoh. In Manali, old Vashisht still holds the soul of the valley—be sure to take a quiet moment near the geothermal hot springs before visiting the ancient timber pagoda of Hadimba Devi."
